A few days ago I was working on some code on this site and noticed the MyBlogLog recent visitors widget stopped displaying.
Initially I thought I had caused the fault, but after taking code off antoher site I was able to display that other sites list of recent visitors.
As this was clearly an issue with my account, I mailed MyBlogLog about the problem.
I received no reply, but the next day the widget was back in action.
Today for a time the widget failed again.
This is just a quick note to say that, if this happens to you dont go tearing your code up, just give it some time and see if it comes back on-line
Update: Contrary to what HMTK.com has been saying, this was not due to my poor coding ability, and I just received this from Eric Marcoullier at myBlogLog:
This should be up and running again — sorry for the confusion
Eric
I asked him what the problem was, I will be surprised if I get a reply, I am sure he is a very busy man at the moment
Update: Well Eric did reply with this:
I have no clue. Someone else emailed me about it this morning and I pinged one of the engineers. I saw another email about a missing blog, thought there might be a trend. Went back to the first one and low and behold, it was alive!
Given the handful of other emails, including your own, I’m positive it was a trend and I haven’t had time to pinf the engineer for info. But based on the emails that said “I have three blogs and it’s only down on this one” I’m guessing one of our servers fell over. We should be on Yahoo’s shiny new hardware by the end of the month and I believe this problem will become an unhappy memory

It’s not the widget. It’s the website
Yeah ok Steve….
Like I said I ripped another sites widget code and it was fine, definately not me
It’s showed me!
I’m your most recent visitor. I think it’s working just fine!
Yeah its working again now, it just seems to disapear from time to time leaving and empty container in the sited bar…
Just read a complaint from another site… So this is really happening…
Are the MyBlogLog people already aware of this?
Yeah they are aware, but Im not actually complining, I only use the free services and I love them
If I was a paying customer I might view it differently
Ok Steve, what say you to this:
I just got this mail from Eric Marcoullier at myBlogLog:
This should be up and running again — sorry for the confusion
Eric
The script is fine. Just that something goes wrong sometimes at their end. It usually stops once in a while for my site too.
Yeah I know that now, at the time, as I had been working on my code I wasnt so sure
sometimes it didn’t display as well but wait for couple minutes before you refresh and it appear again
Mine went down for several hours…
I may have been the other email Eric is referring to. My widget mysteriously started working again but has gone off-line again now. The problem is definitely at their end because the widget is not displaying on my community page at mybloglog either. I got a reasonably quick reply last time so we will see how they go this time.
Hi Coach,
Yeah mines been on the blink again this morning, I am sure they will get it sorted.
I love myBlogLog, so Im prepared to put up with the odd empty sidebox while they get things sorted
I just sent another email off to Eric when I noticed that it is still not working on my main computer but is displaying ok on two of my other machines. A bit peculiar
That is strange, are they on the same network, have you refreshed the page on the one it is displaying on??
Tried everything – refresh, clear cache files, clear cookies, stood on my head
Not to worry everything is back now.
mine disappears now… hopefully work again in next couple hour
….. I think were just going to have to live with it for a while….
